Follow these steps to make sticky, flavorful honey garlic chicken wings baked in your oven.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top of the foil.
  2. Pat the chicken wings completely dry using paper towels. This helps achieve crispier skin.
  3. In a bowl, toss the wings with salt, pepper, and garlic powder until evenly coated.
  4. Arrange the wings in a single layer on the wire rack.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes.
  6. While the wings bake, prepare the sauce: Combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, ketchup, rice vinegar, and sesame oil in a small saucepan.
  7. Bring the sauce mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring often, until the sauce thickens slightly into a glaze. Remove from heat.
  8. After the initial 25 minutes of baking, remove the wings from the oven. Brush half of the prepared sauce evenly over all the wings.
  9. Return the wings to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
  10. Remove the wings again. Brush the remaining sauce over the wings.
  11. Increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C). Bake for a final 5 to 7 minutes until the glaze is very sticky and slightly caramelized.
  12. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, toss the raw wings with 1 teaspoon of baking powder before seasoning and baking.
  • If you prefer a thicker glaze, simmer the sauce longer until it coats the back of a spoon heavily.
  • Toss the wings in the sauce immediately after removing them from the final bake to maximize stickiness.
