Make flavorful, sticky BBQ chicken thighs coated in a sweet honey glaze. This recipe works well for baking or grilling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup quality BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Pat the chicken thighs completely dry using paper towels. Rub the chicken with olive oil, then season evenly with salt and pepper. Place the thighs skin-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce, honey, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and garlic powder to create the glaze.
  4. Brush half of the glaze mixture evenly over the chicken thighs.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes.
  6. Remove the chicken from the oven and brush the remaining glaze over the thighs.
  7. Return the chicken to the oven and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the glaze is dark and sticky. For extra crispiness, switch the oven to broil for the last 2-3 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  8. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For grilling, cook over medium indirect heat, brushing with glaze during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
  • To make the glaze extra sticky, reserve a small amount of the glaze mixture before brushing the first time, and use it for the final coat.
  • If using boneless, skinless thighs, reduce the total cooking time by about 10 minutes.
