Ingredients
Scale
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup Nutella, slightly warmed
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy removal. Lightly grease the paper.
In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat.
Whisk the granulated sugar and brown sugar into the melted butter until combined.
Whisk in the eggs one at a time until the mixture is smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder and salt. Add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Dollop spoonfuls of the slightly warmed Nutella over the batter. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the Nutella into the batter. Do not over-swirl.
Pour the remaining batter over the top and spread gently to cover the swirl layer.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. A toothpick inserted near the edge should come out with moist crumbs, not wet batter.
Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack, about 2 hours. For best cutting results, chill the cooled brownies for 30 minutes.
Lift the brownies out of the pan using the parchment overhang. Place on a cutting board.
Use a 2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to press firmly into the brownies and cut out heart shapes. Re-roll scraps once if necessary.
Notes
Warming the Nutella slightly makes it easier to swirl into the thick batter.
Chilling the brownies before cutting ensures clean edges and preserves the swirl pattern.
Use a sharp, thin cookie cutter for the cleanest heart shapes.
