A large, dense cake combining the flavors of a classic Monster Cookie—oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and M&Ms—shaped and decorated like a football.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup M&Ms candies
  • 1/2 cup white frosting (for laces)
  • Green food coloring (optional, for base frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9×13 inch baking pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Stir in the rolled oats, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and M&Ms until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared 9×13 inch pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 15 minutes before inverting them onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once cool, trim the edges of both cakes to create a slightly rounded, football-like shape if desired.
  8. Place one cake layer on your serving platter. Spread a thin layer of plain or lightly green-tinted frosting over the top. Place the second cake layer on top.
  9. Frost the entire cake with your desired base frosting (green is traditional for a football field look). Shape the frosting to mimic the rounded ends of a football.
  10. Use the white frosting in a piping bag fitted with a small round tip to pipe two parallel lines down the center of the cake to represent the laces.
  11. Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a firmer cake structure, chill the batter for 30 minutes before spreading it into the pans.
  • You can use a simple buttercream or cream cheese frosting for the base coating.
  • If you do not want to shape the cake, bake the batter in a single large sheet pan and cut the football shape out after baking and cooling.
