A recipe for a refreshing homemade iced tea balancing strawberry sweetness and lemon tartness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 black tea bags (or 2 tablespoons loose leaf black tea)
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2-3 lemons)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup cold water (for steeping)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and extra strawberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine 4 cups of water and sugar in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Do not boil.
  2. Remove the sugar water from the heat. Add the tea bags (or loose leaf tea in an infuser) and the sliced strawberries to the hot liquid.
  3. Steep the tea and strawberries for 5 minutes. Do not over-steep the tea.
  4. Remove the tea bags or infuser. Stir in the fresh lemon juice.
  5. Pour the hot strawberry tea mixture into a pitcher. Add 1 cup of cold water and stir well.
  6. Allow the tea mixture to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until completely chilled.
  7. To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the chilled tea over the ice. Garnish each glass with fresh lemon slices and strawberries.

Notes

  • For a less sweet tea, reduce the sugar to 1/4 cup or omit it entirely and sweeten individual servings to your preference.
  • You can substitute black tea with green tea or a hibiscus herbal tea for a different flavor base.
  • If using frozen strawberries, they can be added directly to the hot sugar water; they will help cool the mixture slightly.
  • This recipe makes a concentrate; you can dilute it with more cold water if you prefer a lighter flavor.
