Follow these steps to make a cafe-style Iced Caramel Macchiato at home using simple ingredients and proper layering techniques.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup
  • 1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 2 shots espresso (about 2 ounces) or 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee
  • Ice cubes
  • 2 tablespoons caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Pour the vanilla syrup into the bottom of your serving glass.
  2. Fill the glass about two-thirds full with ice cubes.
  3. Pour the milk over the ice, leaving space at the top for the espresso.
  4. Brew your espresso shots or prepare your strong coffee.
  5. Slowly pour the espresso shots over the milk. Pouring slowly over the back of a spoon can help maintain the layers.
  6. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the top of the drink in a crosshatch pattern for the signature look.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free option, use almond, soy, or oat milk.
  • If you do not have an espresso machine, use 1/2 cup of very strong, cooled coffee.
  • To achieve a cold foam effect, blend a small amount of cold milk with a tiny splash of vanilla until slightly frothy before pouring it over the top layer instead of just the espresso.
  • You can make your own vanilla syrup by simmering equal parts sugar and water with vanilla extract until the sugar dissolves.
