Cook thick ham steaks quickly on the stovetop with a simple, sweet, and tangy honey brown sugar glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (1/2 inch thick) fully cooked ham steaks
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Pat the ham steaks dry with paper towels.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Place the ham steaks in the hot skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until lightly browned.
  4. While the ham cooks, whisk together the honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar in a small bowl to make the glaze.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour the glaze mixture over the ham steaks in the skillet.
  6. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes, turning the steaks once to coat them completely in the bubbling glaze. Watch carefully to prevent the sugar from burning.
  7. Remove the ham steaks from the skillet and serve immediately with the remaining pan glaze spooned over the top.

Notes

  • For a thicker glaze, let it simmer for an extra minute after adding it to the pan, stirring constantly.
  • Serve these ham steaks with scrambled eggs or quick sautéed greens for a complete meal.
  • If your ham steaks are very thin, reduce the initial cooking time to 2 minutes per side.
