Make this quick, flavorful honey garlic shrimp in one skillet and serve it over fluffy rice for an easy weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp cold water
  • Cooked jasmine rice, for serving
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare your rice according to package directions; keep warm.
  2. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until pink. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic to the same skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Pour this mixture into the skillet. Bring to a simmer.
  6. In a separate small bowl, whisk the cornstarch and cold water until smooth to create a slurry. Pour the slurry into the simmering sauce while whisking constantly. Continue to cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens into a glaze.
  7. Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Toss gently to coat the shrimp completely in the sticky honey garlic sauce. Cook for 1 minute to heat through.
  8. Serve the honey garlic shrimp immediately over your prepared jasmine rice. Garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • For best results when thickening the sauce, ensure the cornstarch is fully dissolved in the cold water before adding it to the hot liquid.
  • If you prefer a less sweet sauce, reduce the honey by 1 tablespoon and increase the soy sauce by 1 teaspoon.
  • Jasmine rice pairs well with this recipe, but brown rice or basmati rice also work as alternatives.
