Follow these steps to make juicy chicken thighs with a sticky honey garlic glaze and perfectly crisp skin using an oven method.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken thigh skin completely dry using paper towels. This step is key for crispiness.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
  3. Rub the chicken thighs all over with olive oil, then season generously with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  4. Place the seasoned thighs skin-side up on a wire rack set inside a baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes to start rendering the fat and crisping the skin.
  6. While the chicken bakes, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and apple cider vinegar in a small bowl to create the glaze.
  7. After 25 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven. Brush half of the honey garlic glaze evenly over the skin.
  8. Return the chicken to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
  9. Remove the chicken again, brush with the remaining glaze, and bake for a final 5 to 10 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius) and the skin is deeply browned and crisp.
  10. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, place the chicken in the refrigerator uncovered for at least 2 hours before cooking to further dry the skin.
  • If the glaze starts to look too dark before the chicken is cooked through, reduce the oven temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit for the final baking stage.
  • Serve with roasted broccoli or white rice to soak up the extra sauce.
