Ingredients
Scale
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
2 tablespoons coconut oil or preferred popping oil
2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
1 teaspoon dried dill weed
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon white sugar
1/4 teaspoon citric acid or lactic acid powder (optional, for extra tang)
Instructions
Pop the popcorn kernels using your preferred method (stovetop, air popper, or microwave). If using stovetop, heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat, add kernels, cover, and shake until popping slows. Transfer popped corn to a very large bowl.
In a small bowl, mix together the nutritional yeast, dried dill weed, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, sugar, and citric acid, if using. This is your seasoning blend.
If you want the seasoning to stick well, lightly spray the popcorn with a neutral cooking spray or melted butter (about 1 teaspoon). Do not over-spray, or the popcorn will become soggy.
Sprinkle the seasoning blend evenly over the popcorn.
Toss the popcorn gently but thoroughly until all pieces are coated with the seasoning.
Serve immediately for the best texture.
Notes
For a stronger pickle flavor, you can use pickle salt instead of regular salt in the blend.
If you do not have citric acid, increase the salt slightly, but the tanginess will be less pronounced.
Store leftover seasoned popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
