A recipe for combining homemade lemonade with cold brew coffee concentrate for a unique, caffeinated, and refreshing summer drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup coarse ground coffee beans
  • 4 cups cold filtered water (for cold brew)
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup hot water (for simple syrup)
  • Ice cubes
  • Water or sparkling water (to top, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cold Brew Concentrate: Combine the coarse ground coffee and 4 cups of cold water in a large jar or container. Stir briefly. Cover and let steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12 to 18 hours.
  2. Strain the Concentrate: Slowly strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth or a paper coffee filter into a clean container. Discard the grounds. You should have about 3.5 cups of concentrate.
  3. Make the Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and 1 cup of hot water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. Make the Lemonade Base: In a pitcher, combine the fresh lemon juice and the cooled simple syrup. Stir well. This is your lemonade base.
  5. Assemble the Drink: Fill a tall glass halfway with ice. Add 1/3 cup of the lemonade base to the glass.
  6. Gently pour 1/3 cup of the cold brew concentrate over the back of a spoon held just above the lemonade layer to create a layered effect.
  7. Top the glass with a splash of cold water or sparkling water, if desired. Stir gently before drinking.

Notes

  • Adjust the simple syrup amount based on your preference for sweetness.
  • For a layered look, ensure your cold brew concentrate and lemonade are both chilled before assembly.
  • If you prefer a less intense coffee flavor, use less concentrate or dilute the concentrate slightly with water before adding it to the glass.
