Make this easy, make-ahead chocolate overnight oats recipe that tastes like decadent brownie batter. It is a healthy, high-protein breakfast perfect for busy mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder
  • 1 scoop (about 20g) chocolate protein powder (optional, for high protein oats)
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla)
  • 3/4 cup milk (dairy or dairy free overnight oats option)
  • 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup or honey (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon mini chocolate chips (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients. You will need a jar or container with a lid that holds at least 12 ounces.
  2. In the jar, combine the rolled oats, chia seeds, cocoa powder, and protein powder (if using). Stir these dry ingredients together well.
  3. Add the Greek yogurt, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt to the jar.
  4. Stir everything thoroughly until the cocoa powder is fully mixed in and there are no dry clumps remaining. You want a creamy overnight oats texture.
  5. Seal the jar with the lid and shake it well, or stir again after five minutes to prevent the chia seeds from clumping at the bottom.
  6. Place the jar in the refrigerator and chill for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This is your no cook breakfast idea preparation.
  7. In the morning, check the consistency. If it is too thick, stir in a splash more milk.
  8. Top with mini chocolate chips or other desired toppings. Enjoy this decadent healthy breakfast immediately.

Notes

  • For a dairy free overnight oats version, use almond milk or oat milk and ensure your protein powder is plant-based if you include it.
  • If you want a stronger chocolate peanut butter oats flavor, add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter before chilling.
  • This recipe is excellent for meal prep oatmeal; you can prepare 3-5 jars at once.
  • For a sweeter, dessert recipes feel, add a few drops of liquid stevia instead of maple syrup.
