Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning mix
1/2 cup water
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup milk
12 taco shells (hard or soft)
Toppings: lettuce, diced tomatoes, salsa
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until browned. Drain excess grease.
Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
Stir in the taco seasoning mix and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid reduces.
While the meat simmers, prepare the creamy filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, milk, and 1/2 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until smooth and creamy.
Remove the meat from the heat. Stir in the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until melted into the meat mixture.
To assemble, warm your taco shells according to package directions. Spoon a layer of the cheesy ground beef mixture into each shell.
Top the meat with a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture for the creamy filling.
Add your desired toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, and salsa. Serve immediately.
Notes
For extra flavor in the meat, substitute the water with 1/2 cup of beef broth.
If you prefer a spicier taco, add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the seasoning.
You can prepare the meat mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
