Make quick, crispy mozzarella sticks in your air fryer for a less messy appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 mozzarella sticks (frozen or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. If using frozen mozzarella sticks, do not thaw them. If making homemade, ensure they are very cold.
  2. Set up a standard breading station: place flour in one shallow dish, the beaten egg in a second, and mix the panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and oregano in a third dish.
  3. Dredge each mozzarella stick first in the flour, shaking off excess.
  4. Dip the floured stick into the egg wash, letting excess drip off.
  5. Roll the stick thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to adhere the coating. Place breaded sticks on a plate.
  6. Lightly spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the breaded sticks in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch. Work in batches if necessary.
  7. Lightly spray the tops of the sticks with cooking spray.
  8. Air fry at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  9. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For best results and to prevent cheese leakage, work quickly when breading and keep the cheese as cold as possible.
  • If the sticks are not golden brown after the initial cook time, spray lightly with oil and cook for 1 to 2 more minutes.
  • Serve with marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
