Make crispy French toast sticks quickly in the air fryer, coated in a simple cinnamon sugar mixture for a fast breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices thick bread (Texas toast or brioche recommended)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for batter)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cut each bread slice lengthwise into three sticks.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon sugar for the batter.
  3. Dip each bread stick into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Do not soak them too long.
  4. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  5. Arrange the battered sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Spray the tops of the sticks lightly with cooking spray.
  7. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 6 to 8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. While the sticks cook, mix the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon together in a shallow dish for the coating.
  9. Immediately after removing the hot sticks from the air fryer, toss them gently in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  10. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For sticks that hold their shape better, you can lightly toast the bread slices before dipping them in the batter.
  • If you prefer a thicker coating, you can brush the cooked sticks with melted butter before rolling them in the cinnamon sugar.
  • You can prepare the batter ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
