Ingredients
Scale
1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon neutral oil (like canola or avocado)
1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
1 teaspoon rice vinegar
Instructions
Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess water. Wrap the block in paper towels or a clean cloth and place something heavy on top. Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes.
In a medium bowl, toss the tofu cubes with the cornstarch, salt, and pepper until evenly coated. This coating helps achieve crispiness.
Lightly spray your air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with oil to prevent sticking. Place the coated tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary. Do not overcrowd the basket.
Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 12 to 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the tofu is golden brown and crispy on all sides.
While the tofu cooks, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, and rice vinegar.
Once the tofu is cooked, transfer the hot, crispy pieces to a clean bowl. Pour the glaze over the tofu and toss gently until all pieces are coated.
Serve immediately over rice or with steamed vegetables.
Notes
Pressing the tofu thoroughly is the most important step for achieving a truly crispy texture.
For extra flavor, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder to the cornstarch coating mixture.
If you prefer a thicker glaze, you can briefly heat the sauce mixture in a small saucepan until it bubbles slightly before tossing with the tofu.
